The Solar Decathlon
For a couple very intense weeks every two years, the National Mall in Washington, D.C., is transformed by a unique event known as the Solar Decathlon. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, this international collegiate competition challenges teams of architecture and engineering students to design, build and operate highly efficient, completely solar-powered homes.
As Whirlpool Corporation knows firsthand, the resulting structures are astounding—as is the enthusiasm of the students involved. In the most recent competition, we were privileged to sponsor five teams through in-kind donations of KitchenAid®, Maytag® and Whirlpool® products. Here, weÂ?re pleased to share an experience of being at the Solar Decathlon with you.
