Casa Futura by Kevin deFreitas Architects
California architect Kevin deFreitas didn't set out to design a green, highly energy-efficient home for his family. But, as he dug into the project, he began to gain an understanding that the home's site itself had valuable potential. Working with the solar angles and the direction of the prevailing breezes, he built Casa Futura.
To maximize his home's efficiency, he equipped the kitchen with ENERGY STAR® qualified appliances from Whirlpool Corporation—including a KitchenAid® refrigerator and dishwasher. In addition to high-performance appliances, deFreitas used recycled or highly recyclable materials throughout the house. It's all resulted in a home that consumes 60% less electricity and 65% less water than the California average for a comparable space.
